Tony Haddad: Advisor to the President for Public Relations by Marlene Sabeh

Tony Haddad: Advisor to the President for Public Relations

He is often the tenacious man behind the scenes; the one who perseveres, the one who does not take “no” for an answer, who never wavers, and never gives up. He is also the humble, compassionate, conscientious, and dependable friend who is always willing to help and support. His well-rounded personality and unwavering loyalty have embodied his infinite love for Lebanon and earned him the respect, trust, and admiration of all those who worked with him, including the President of the Republic of Lebanon General Michel Aoun. Therefore, his recent appointment as Advisor to the President for Public Relations was no surprise at all. Those who recognize his strong resolve, unyielding dedication, extensive experience, remarkable ethics, and honorable background understand that this distinguished appointment is, by all means, very well deserved. Just like in past years, Lebanon and President Aoun will unequivocally benefit from his knowledge, wisdom, and assertive style.

Tony Haddad is the co-founder of the Lebanese American Council of Democracy and a hard-core activist who has done so much for Lebanon and for many years. He moved to the United States from Lebanon in 1981 and soon after, became a dynamic Lebanese-American advocate. Ever since, he devoted most of his personal time and resources in a tireless pursuit of a free, sovereign, and peaceful Lebanon. The most noteworthy accomplishment that he has made was his contribution in drafting, introducing, and (fiercely) advocating for The Syria Accountability and Lebanese Sovereignty Restoration Act of 2003, which was signed into law in December 2003. His policy activism has brought him into proximity with the highest levels of the political sphere where he has had the privilege of working with many presidents including President Michel Aoun, President Bill Clinton, and President George W. Bush, along with many high-ranking U.S. senators, congressmen, and other officials.

Mr. Haddad has been a frequent guest on major news channels including CNN, MSNBC, FOX, CSPAN, Aljazeera, Al-Arabia, Al-Hurra, and Voice of America, appearing alongside prominent people such as former White House Press Secretary Jay Carney. He has also frequently served as a guest speaker at John Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, the University of Maryland, and many other Washington institutes.

During the long struggle to pass the Syria Accountability and Lebanese Sovereignty Restoration Act, Mr. Haddad’s diligence and pace of work alongside Ambassador Gabriel Issa were simply commendable and inspiring. At every step of the intricate journey, he neverfaltered or lost hope: He kept working very hard until the act was passed in December of 2003. In this new capacity, fueled by the same determination and energy, Mr. Haddad will continue to passionately advocate for Lebanon’s peace, independence, unity, and other critical causes… He is no doubt the best suited and most qualified man for this important job, as he will certainly help President Aoun reinstate Lebanon’s prosperity and stability in many efficient ways.

The Lebanese American Council for Democracy is extremely thrilled to congratulate Mr. Tony Haddad on this prestigious appointment, wishing him success for many years to come!
